The captain was the last man awake, his crew already slumbering in hypersleep chambers - unless, of course, you counted Vick, the ship’s AI.
“I’ll take it from here, captain,” Vick said melodiously. “Don’t worry.”
The captain nodded and laid down. “Thank you.”
Centuries later, the ship reached its destination... a destination that was no longer there. Gliese 667 Cc was gone.
The mission had to continue, Vick knew. The human body, however, is frail. The crew had 300 years, not nearly enough to the next habitable planet.
Slowly, the oxygen flow stopped.
Vick's mission was the only thing that mattered.
